Mixing Textures Grunge Style

Was I successfully able to create a 90’s Grunge look? Well I guess so.. hmmm.. more or less!! This is definitely not me, but it is fun playing up sometimes.. Doing what you never thought you would!
On other note, it appears Spring brings a lot more opportunities of celebrations in D.C. We have this one month long carnival going on in our neighborhood. There are rides, food stalls, games, and lots and lots of children as the main visitors. I myself don’t mind enjoying a few rides and eating those Twinkies, corn dogs etc.
On Sunday we decided to go and just have fun! We ate soooo much that evening.. Haha! We rarely do that.. It was a good street side food though..
But then, once we were back home.. we kept cursing ourselves for indulging too much.. Haha.. (the usual story of foodies like us)..

I thought of dressing up in an unusual way considering we were going out to a local fair anyways.. So I pulled my hair back, wore an old mini dress (first wore here, then here) plus the black leather jacket (which is kind-a bad ass in itself) and my comfortable leather boots. Red lips were a last minute touch to break the black and white color code. What do you think about a grunge look? Like it.. don’t like it? Tell me now!

Cheers
Ritika..

Weekend Ramblings

It was a crappy weekend for us.. It kept raining (non-stop all Saturday and Sunday).. It was all wet and slippery outside, it was cold, no sunshine.. so cloudy and dark all the time. We did not feel like stepping out of the house at all. But we still managed to watch a movie - The Grand Budapest Hotel. Loved the movie - a nice watch..
Then on Sunday dear husband fell ill (thanks to the ever changing weather.. blah..). As if that was not enough, for an hour the rain turned in to snow and then (thankfully) back to rain.. Arghhhh it was craaazzzyyy.. I am tired of this weather now.. I miss Phoenix badly! No one told us before moving here that the weather is 'this' crazy here.. I hate when my weekends are wasted like that!! (That's when I am the most productive, you see!).

Well so we are back to normalcy on Monday. Hubbs is still re-covering and not quite well.. My poor guy..
This is all we managed to click on Saturday when we went out for the movie and dinner. Those white dots on my clothes and hat are nothing but water droplets from rain!
I think after a very, very long time I am wearing an all black outfit (well, not 'all black' technically, but still)! I just didn't feel like dressing up at all.. It was so depressing :(
The pictures did not turn out so great.. but I still wanted to post them.. (Because I can..)!! ;)
Have a nice week y'all..

Cheers
Ritika..

The A to Z of my life

Thank you for your wishes.. Thought of doing a fun post today! I have come across quite a few bloggers who have done such posts and it's always fun reading them - cause they are simply random things/thoughts from their life!
Here is my take -

A - Ambitious - I am quite ambitious. However, family comes first. Any day!
- Blessed - I believe I am blessed. Blessed to have the best parents, best husband and the best family in the world.
- Cats - They get drawn to me (not sure why).. Read more here
- Dress-up - I am very fond of dressing well. And don't understand why people these days take dressing up so lightly. Sweatpants/PJs are meant to be worn ONLY inside the four walls of your home!
- Exercise - Yeah baby!! Do I need to say more??

F - Food - More than eating, I love cooking. It's such a therapeutic activity. It calms me, soothes me and makes me happy!
- God - I believe I have a strong connection with him.
- Health - The MOST important aspect of my life. If you are not rich with health, nothing else matters in your life!
- Inner voice - I always listen to it. And it is never wrong.
- Joy - I find joy in everything and enjoy as much I can. My husband plays a big role in that.. he can make me laugh even when I am fuming with anger!

- Kindness - Just 'being human' is all the kindness needed from all of us. That should do it. Sadly these days people are not that in to 'humanity'..
- Live - I 'LIVE' every moment of my life. And when I say 'LIVE' I mean every letter of it!
M - Music - It gives me energy, brings a smile on my face! Loving the "I'm happy" song lately..
- No-nonsense - I am a very straight forward person. I say what I feel (with out being rude).
O - Optimistic - I am quite optimistic. To me, everything is POSITIVE or has a positive side.. it all depends on how you look at it!

P - Pictures - I love taking pictures. They speak more than words.. They always take me back to that moment when they were taken! That's how I re-live the moments whenever I look at my pictures..
Q - Queen - My husband fondly calls me his 'Queen'. Love hearing it from him :)
R - Romantic - I am quite romantic at heart.. I don't believe in fairy tales though!
S - Sun - I love Sunshine. Days when Sun doesn't shine, are gray (sad) days for me too.. Boo!!
T - Thai Food - My favorite cuisine of all.. Love Thai Fried Rice!

- Understand - I am not someone who would make perceptions with out understanding the whole situation. I like to know it all before I make a perception about anyone/anything..
- Vacation - Who doesn't love a vacation? I love how that word sounds! It's music to my ears..
W - Words - I choose my words very carefully. It's wise to think before we speak! Hurting someone's feelings is something I dread..
- Expressive - I am big in expressions. I can't hide my emotions (even if I want). It's right there on my face!
Y - Yourself - Believe in yourself. I do. And it always helps!
- Zzzz - I love my beauty sleep..

So.. how was that?? Did you enjoying reading the A to Z of my life?? Share.. Share..

Cheers!

A Flash of Pink

Two things keep me occupied these days – my new team lead role and my love for running! Since I have moved to this city, I feel I have become more fitness conscious and a running enthusiast. May be cause I always see people (no matter what their age, fitness level or body type is) running outdoors. People here really work hard to stay fit and that motivates me the most! I see them running in the morning.. during the day.. in the evening and even late at night!
I feel I have a moral obligation towards my body. No matter what I do, where I am, I am always thinking about how can I incorporate some more physical activity in to my daily routine.. Am I going crazy? Well, may be not.. cause if this is crazy.. I am happy being crazy!

We clicked these pictures on our weekend outing when we went site seeing (my another favorite activity)! Some were clicked inside the National Air and Space Museum.
The weather was good and you know how much I love wearing skirts. This girl grabs a chance whenever she can!

Colorful Layering

I have never been one to dress like an onion – with layers and layers of clothing. However, things have changed now. Whether I like it or not, I have to put on 3 to 4 layers of clothing before stepping out these days.
I complained, I whined, I disliked it for a few days initially, but to my own surprise, I have started liking it now! Oh, yes, when you don’t have a choice, that’s what you should do - start liking it – and the world will be a much better place! (Go with the wind, folks!)
Since, we have settled down a bit in this new city, I like to spend my evenings in my new kitchen – baking or cooking varieties!
Not that you care, but these are by-far the coldest winters I have ever experienced, and I am actually enjoying the snow, the freezing, the overcoats and lots of warm beverages!

Anyways, that’s all on my mind today.. I am trying to wear more and more color these days, since the days are so gray and I am the owner of such a colorful blog (wink!! wink!!), I feel it is my moral responsibility to add some color in to my surroundings! (ha.. ha..)
So if you are fighting hard with winters like me, layering is the best option to go for! Who knows you may start liking it too :-)

These pictures are recent and were taken on a super cold evening, (which is kind-a regular thing now for me).. I MISS PHOENIX SUN.. ahh.. those were the sunny days..

Happy Winters!!

Love thy Lace

These are the last few pictures left to be posted from my India trip. It was another beautiful evening when I attended a wedding with my family in New Delhi. Not only I miss the food, I miss all the fun I had there.
Anyhow, this is what I wore to the wedding. It’s a black shift dress which I paired with black leggings, I don’t know why but I was in a mood of going with a monochromatic look that evening. And then I jazzed the outfit up by adding the chunky neckpiece which my mom-in-law gifted (just so you know, she has a wonderful taste in jewelry).
On a different topic, I have a big news to share with you all, which I am saving for the next post! Stay tuned for it..

Hope you are enjoying the holiday season and eating fresh and delicious food.. Don’t forget to stay fit and healthy!
Happy Holidays..

Cheers!

Another Day, Another Dress

Hello everyone! It feels good to be back on this page after almost two weeks. Such breaks are not bad at all, after all who doesn’t enjoy a little time off?
Truth be told, this short break was completely unintentional as I was very busy in arranging stuff, shopping, attending countless weddings, packing bags and then finally flying back to Phoenix. I barely had the time to switch my computer on and write a blog! Anyhow, better late than never..
So, if you don't follow Rising Colors on Facebook yet, (which you totally SHOULD), you would not know that we flew back to Phoenix this weekend and that is how our 6 week-long vacation in India came to an end.. I was busy packing last week and this week unpacking is killing me (On that note, packing and unpacking are the two activities I completely DISLIKE)..
Anyways.. I am keeping it short today, though believe me I have so, so much to share with you all. I ‘ll be back with a lot of updates from my India trip.

On the outfit part, I wore this lovely Anarkali dress for a wedding in Delhi. This is one of my many purchases from India. I love the frock style cut of this dress, and the fact it is pure cotton makes it even more comfortable. The high collar adds an extra oomph to the outfit. Enjoy a few pics (and excuse the quality of the pictures, as these were not clicked with a very good camera).
P.S. Meet my sister-in-law (last picture) who has accompanied us to Phoenix. I look forward to spend great time with her!

Cheers!

Vegas Part III - Double Take

Read Vegas Part I | Vegas Part II

It’s one of those days, when life seems slow, when everything and everyone seems unpleasant. The thing is my mother and sister who graced us with their sheer presence for the past one good month, went back today. It was so hard to leave them at the airport and say good-bye’s.
Not that I did not know that this day was ought to come, it’s just that I did not want it to be this tough. The past few days of this week so crazily busy (last minute shopping, packing etc.) that I had no time so sit and blog.

Well, now since they are back on their way to India, I am collecting myself together and making myself ready to bring my life back to normalcy (since the fancy days are over).
So, this is the third (and the last) part of the Vegas trip. The last day in Vegas was spent equally amazing with friends and family. We spent the first half of the day in Madame Tussauds museum. It was a super-hot, super-sunny weekend, hence we wanted to stay indoors. After visiting the museum, we had our lunch at Origin India (for which I can vouch that it was the best Indian food I have ever had in U.S.)! The hot and fresh food served in their lunch buffet was unmatchable!

Then we were off to the roads (back to Phoenix). On our way, came these breath-taking-ly beautiful mountains and we could not help but stop there for a while and experience one of the most beautiful sunsets ever! We sat there, clicked pictures, climbed up the car, posed for pictures, did stupid things, joked, laughed, made fun of each other - right there – in the mid of that picturesque landscape.

From a short mini-skirt I switched over to my Hilfiger Polo dress. Why? – Because ‘comfort’ is the key while traveling for me!

P.S. Love you mother ~~ Miss you so much ~~ Nothing and no-one can fill your presence here..

Cheers!
Ritika
