My creator, My father

The greatest gift I ever had come from God, and I call him Dad!

I had the greatest father
a child could ever have on earth
Was the first male face I remember
after my mother gave me birth
I remember the many times
he wiped the tears from my face
And felt the strength of his arms
when he held me in his embrace

His discipline seemed harsh at times
and his words may have been strong
But it wasn't because he was cruel
was because I did a wrong

The times we shared together
were more than I can recall
To have him the moments I did
was better than not knowing him at all.

Our fathers carry half of our genetic makeup. Our relationship with our father plays a huge part of who we will become. In many segments of society, people grow up without ever knowing their fathers. This is unfortunate because fathers should play as important a role in raising their children as mothers. A father is the model of a man for his daughter and she will choose a man who is like him. A father is the model for his son as well. They are the mentors of our life. Our life would have been completely different without their immense love and support.
Father's Day is not the only day when you can express your love for him.

Every day is a Father's Day. Don't wait for special occasions to let him know that how much you value him in your life. It is a great unfortunate moment when he/she loses his/her dad. No one on this earth can repair that huge loss. So, before it's too late express your beautiful feelings for him.

I am not ashamed to say that no man I ever met was my father's equal, and I never loved any other man as much.
I was looking at an old photograph, glaring at the cracked frame. I still remember his smile and the way he used to laugh. Since the day he left it hasn't been the same.
My mom says I got my looks from my father. He too had those big almond shaped eyes and a Wheatish complexion. Whenever she says so, I feel proud for some reason. Don’t know why, but it feels good that I resemble my father.
He was a very unusual man, a man with few words and expressions. To the best of my remembrance, I don’t remember seeing him frown or being sad or worried about anything. He always kept calm in situations of panic. His face always had a serious expression, he did not talk or laugh much. He served for Indian Air Force and may be that was the reason behind his controlled nature and disciplined life.
I grew up seeing him dressing up in his crisp light blue uniform and hard soled heavy duty black leather boots. Those boots made thundering noise when he used to walk in them. The icing on the cake used to be the badge with his name carved on it which he used to wear proudly on his chest. He used to side part his jet black hair and loved his thin well-trimmed moustache, which added an elegance to his face.

His interests or I would say leisure activities were far more different from ours, as in we youngsters today. We like to play video games or go for a coffee or a movie or chat with friends, but he loved reading. And guess what? He loved reading Dictionaries. Yes, he loved learning new words during his free hours. And need not say, his vocabulary was remarkable. I don’t remember that I asked him the meaning of some word and he did not revert with a positive answer at that very moment. He was a well read man.
His another interest included reading law books. Though he was never a law student, he liked to enhance his knowledge about Indian laws and the penal codes in his spare time.
I always wanted to be like him! Poised, calm, composed and self-attained.

He never looked for praises, he just went on quietly working. His dreams were seldom spoken, his wants were very few, and most of the time his worries went unspoken too.
He was there like a firm foundation through all the storms of my life. He was a true friend I could turn to, when times were good or bad. One of my greatest blessings, the man that I called Dad.

He taught me life's lessons, of right from wrong. And instilled in me values, that made me strong. And so through the years, he stood like a hero. Working to give, all that he could.
He left us before 7 years. He was my hero! Rather, he is my hero, and will be, forever.
His presence was important, and I loved to see him smile. For no one in the world, could emulate his style.
And so dear Dad, my best memory to recall, is the gift of your presence, the greatest gift of all.
I could still smell his cologne,
piercing my little nose,
his touch was rough, but gentle,
his strength was unbearable, but soft.
He left me, He's gone.
But I remain strong,
for we will meet again.
His love is too big to be put into words,
But his love isn't.
Who is he?
He's Daddy, My creator, My father.
The man that helped me enter this wonderful world.
But now he's gone, never to return again
But his words never left my memory,
Bye-Bye Riti. You will always be my little Sweetie
He said to me.
Too young to understand the pain of missing a father,
His love still blossoms like a flower.
But he's gone now,
how I longed to smell his sweet cologne.
My Daddy, My Life, My love...

I dedicate this post to my Father. May his soul rest in peace.
Love you Dad! And Miss you!

For the outfit post, enjoy the pictures.

Cheers

A plain mane story

In the words of Martin Luther, “The hair is the richest ornament of a woman”. The statement can’t be truer.

This post is going to be different from the usual outfit posts. It’s a story about a girl. A girl who hated her hair.

And that girl is me.

Flashback - My mother always had those super long locks falling below her waist touching her hips. She had thick black long hair. My mom was a Rapunzel, in a way. And I, being her biological daughter, inherited that thick hair from her. However, my version was not that soft and silky. They were thick and rough! And I never liked my hair. NEVER EVER. Simply because they were so thick and dense that I could hardly manage them or make different hairstyles out of them.

I always had to keep them oiled (so that they stay in control) and tied up in a high pony or two plaits (for school). I remember once talking to my mom –

Me: “Mom, I don’t like my hair.”

Mom: “You have beautiful hair, sweetie. What’s wrong with your hair?”

Me: “They are so thick and rough. I want soft and silky hair.”

Mom: “Don’t think that way; you have got healthy hair, just like me. There are women who dream of thick hair like yours. You should be happy!”

And I used to wonder, would I ever be happy with my hair. Phew.!!

Those were the days when the market was getting flooded with all the new shampoos and conditioners. New products were getting launched and marketed heavily on TV channels and posters etc. And no wonder, I was highly influenced by those commercials where in the models had such fabulous, flowing, super long lustrous hair by using the shampoo and conditioner they are advertising for.
And hence, I started trying all those shampoos one by one. My motto was to search one such magical shampoo which can transform my hair from bad to fab! And in that search, I kept on trying a new shampoo every time I washed my hair. Every single time, thinking one day I will find the shampoo of my dreams. But no luck!

I even got my hair straightened, colored and chemically treated in the urge of my dream hair, but I can say this from my personal experience that all these were temporary fixes. Nothing helped in improving the texture of my hair.

Well, then life kept going and I moved to New Delhi as I got a job. By now, I was too tired of trying different products on my hair. I was in a state of “Been there, done that”!

Then the launch of Dove shampoos and conditioners happened. I still remember seeing those commercials where real women (and not models) were talking about their personal experiences on TV (the after effects of using the products), and undoubtedly they seemed happy! And I thought to myself, is that true or is it a selling gimmick again. After waiting for a while, I thought of giving it a try. I bought myself a sachet of Dove shampoo and washed my hair with it.
From the very first wash, I could see or rather feel the difference! I clearly remember I loved my hair that day. For the first time ever, my hair felt so smooth and silky, just the way I wanted them to be! I was so happy to find the perfect shampoo, which was made for me, for my kind of hair. Then, I headed to the drug store and bought the large size bottles of the shampoo and conditioner and started using it regularly.

Eventually, the texture of my hair improved from rough and coarse to soft and shiny… and that was the end of my hair problems!

Reality - I love my hair now. I am a Rapunzel too, in my own way ;) Dove really changed my hair. I even suggested my mom to try these shampoos out. She loves them too!
That was my hair story. Go try Dove! And feel the change!

And yes, check this Dove hair-aware application on Facebook. It’s pretty cool.

Dark Passion

Disclaimer: This is a long post. Please keep reading J

Hello everyone! So how was the weekend for you all? Well, I relaxed for a day and then watched the movie “Prometheus” the other day. Need not mention (if you have already seen this movie), it was an exciting movie with ample of teeth clenching moments. You never know when what will happen.

Its Monday today, and I am back in office and writing this particular post in my break hour as I have already completed my day’s work and nothing much is left for today.

From now onwards, I have decided to write more for my blog (not that there is any pressure or necessity), but I think it would be quite fun to pen down my ideas or thoughts on my blog for others to read.

To start with, I can talk about things that I want to do in this life, and sometime very soon. In each of our lives, we have certain list of things which we always wanted to do but couldn’t just because of lack of time or opportunity, or resources or support etc. However, we still have those desires in us somewhere back in our mind – that someday we will do it! So here goes my list –

1.     Get trained in dancing:
Yes, dance – be it any dance form, I love them all. I have always loved dancing and wanted to pursue dancing as one of my major hobbies, but circumstances never allowed me to. Now that I am married and have priorities and other things lined up in life, I sometimes think if I can still go for it. Even during my school days, I was an pretty active in dance competitions and events.
2.     Work more on my body:
I can go to any limits when the question is about a fit and athletic body. I want to seriously work out and get a fit and toned body. I would love to have those curved biceps and triceps, washboard and worked out abs, a sculpted waist and back! Fitness (which is always on my mind, no matter what) is my key area of interest. I sometimes also think of leaving my current job and study sports science and then become a personal trainer. I would love to do that. I still go to the gym but I want to dedicate more of myself into fitness.
3.     Polish my cooking skills:
I love love love cooking. Trying my hand on different cuisines and dishes usually keeps me busy on my weekends. But I am still not happy with the time I spend on cooking being it one of my major interests. My day ends even before I realize! I rarely get time to cook much.
4.     Spend more time in reading:
I want to read. Seriously. And read more. It’s like a never ending urge inside me. And my topics of interest are fiction, fitness and spirituality (in that order). Though I don’t get much time to read, (blame it to my 10 hours job and 2.5 hours of travel daily) I still read on a daily basis.
5.     Be a model:
Last but not the least – I always wanted to be a model. No kidding! Somewhere deep down, even today I have that desire still in me. I love posing for my pictures. Stalking the models in those fashion magazines always kept me engaged in my teen years. I wanted to have a glamorous job ( may be like of a fashion editor), but then destiny had planned something else for me and thus I landed in the IT industry.

The list may go too long – but I think 5 is good for now. I am working on organizing the folders of my life. And soon, I may expect some exciting stuff happening in my life, after which I can think of working on the above list.

-       That’s all for now. Please enjoy the outfit pictures taken (in Kanpur) by my super lovely younger sister on a movie date. (Sisterly-love)

Cheers

Flowing the ethnic way

Skirt Power! These pictures were taken in Kanpur (my home town) before me and my sister headed to CCD for a chilling coffee and my favorite dessert - Chocolate Fantasy with hot chocolate sauce. Slurrrrp!!

Yes, I piled on some calories by this pure indulgence, but who cares, when such yummy looking things are created by God for us. ;)
A full flowing skirt enjoyed me and vice versa. I love the neck details of the orange blouse. And the colors were perfect for a summer outing.
Mr. Summer is getting fiery! So how are you going to give it back to him? - I'm going the flowy skirt way!
I have kept the accesories to bare minimum due to the humidity in the atmosphere. Just could not load on to anything! I am oh so over summers.. now.. need some rain badly.
Please do tell me, how do you like my outfit - Yay or Nay?

And yes, for pre-post teasers and other updates, please like my Facebook page.
Happy reading!

Cheers
